One thing I always ask webmasters who use article submissions is what exactly they’re trying to achieve. By and large, I hear one or more of the three benefits listed below in their replies:
A higher search engine rank for their most important keywords, a reputation as an authoritative source of information in their field or more traffic due to people clicking the links to their site in the articles.
In my opinion, the greatest reward of Article Marketing comes in terms of SEO-having a higher search engine ranking for your keyword terms.
When trying to drive traffic to your website, you need to do something to attract the attention of your target market. This is what article marketing does-it places your website in a prominent position in an arena where your target market is hanging out.
Whenever you need information on a topic, you will go to Google or Yahoo or one of the other search engines and type your question or need into the search box. Your target customers are also Googling solutions to their needs.
Especially if you own a business, you want your site to appear among the top results for the search terms your audience is likely to use. When your site appears near or at the top of these results, it is much more likely that your potential readers or buyers will find and visit your website. These visitors are known as targeted traffic.
Targeted traffic means that the people who are visiting your website are most likely to be in need of what you’re offering at your website. This is what you’re going for. And these are the steps to rank higher in Google and the other search engines:
1 – Research your keywords. These are the words and phrases that people use when looking for a site like yours.
Once you’ve done your research and have identified these words, you can begin incorporating these words and phrases into your content. You may already know what keywords you want to use, but it’s well worth your while to do some research using one or more of the many free and commercially available tools like Word Tracker, Keyword Discovery, Google Keywords and Overture, to name a few.
2- Write articles on the topic of your website. Oftentimes as you’re writing you will naturally use your keywords in your article, title and resource box, but it may be helpful to read back over your article after you’ve finished writing it, and see if there are any places where it would be appropriate to subtly use your keyword terms.
While using keywords is important, it is less so than making your articles readable. Write for human readers, not search engines. Don’t pack your articles with keywords – this makes them difficult to read and can even cause them to be ignored by search engines. 1%-3% keyword density is plenty.
3- Keep submitting articles regularly. A few per month is fine, but you need to do this each and every month. This is where a lot of website owners fail; but keeping at your article marketing efforts is important if you want to see results.
Article marketing can be a great addition to your SEO techniques, but you need to be determined about your efforts. If you can keep it up, the benefits will be cumulative over time and can be significant. You will need to get into the habit of writing these articles and submitting them consistently, but the results will be well worth it .
