Quite a few people are scared to pursue the income opportunities available through affiliate marketing because deep down they associate it with ripping people off. They think that if they become affiliate marketers, all they are going to be doing is selling people products they don’t really need and won’t ever use.
Yes, of course there are dishonest affiliate marketers. Just like there are dishonest teachers, doctors, lawyers, cooks, landscapers and (insert just about any job here). We can never get away from the fact that there are dishonest people in every profession.
But … Is affiliate marketing itself dishonest? My answer is no. I know that it has a bad reputation. I know that there are “work at home” scammers trying to get your money at every turn. That isn’t what affiliate marketing is.
With a recession starting, many people have a real need to make extra money without sacrificing their family life. Affiliate marketing is truly an opportunity to have the income you need from that part time job (and hopefully later full time) but still be in control of your time and your life. Most important, you can be in control of the results.
The key principle that you must wrap your mind around is that affiliate marketig isn’t selling anything. Affiliate marketing started out as just another form of advertising for businesses which had good products but no advertising budget yet. Whoever came up with it was a genius. Now businesses of all sorts are using it to promote their products.
It is the job of the business and the product to make the sales. The job of the affiliate marketer is to find out who the product could help, or who needs the product already, and then make sure those people find out about it. It is just that simple. If you understand that principle, the rest of the equation will fall in line.
